Caran d’Ache Crystal Limited Edition
The exclusive Crystal writing instrument collection was born of the creative partnership between two legendary manufacturers, Geneva-based Caran d’Ache and the French master of fine crystal, Lalique.
The unique style of this limited edition creation juxtaposes the refinement of Art Deco with the iconic Coutard motif, a succession of drops of water springing forth in a fine cascade, created by René Lalique in 1935 for the Fontaine de Coutard.
A symbol of life and rebirth, in tribute to the drop of ink with which writing begins, the finely embossed Coutard motif adorns the white or black ceramic body of the pen.
The droplet of ink fuses with the droplet of water to perfect the creation. Gentle movement, bright transparency, softness to the touch… to give its writing instruments a timeless refinement, Caran d’Ache was inspired by the famous Coutard Motif designed by Rene Lalique in 1935 when the order was placed for the fountain that carries his name.
That was a period of exceptional creativity in the decorative arts and the web of droplets encapsulates the magic of two great styles, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The work also suggests the beauty of nature with its rounded shapes, its rhythm and discipline.
Caran d’Ache set itself the difficult task of developing a writing instrument with a distinctive touch and feel, but the maison’s craftsmen welcomed the challenge, faithfully reinterpreting the Coutard motif on the body of the pen.
Its silhouette seems to come alive in the fingers as if the relief welcomes their caress. The cabochon of satin-brushed crystal, an icon of Lalique, plays with the light, captures the attention and invites contemplation.
